Summary

Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister’s wedding。 Especially since her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiralled out of control。 Now everyone she knows—including her ex and his fiancée—will be there and eager to meet him。

She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic and aid in her deception。 New York to Spain is no short flight and her raucous family won’t be easy to fool。

Enter Aaron Blackford—her tall, handsome, condescending colleague—who surprisingly offers to step in。 She’d rather refuse; never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling, and insufferable man。

But Catalina is desperate, and as the wedding draws nearer, Aaron looks like her best option。 And she begins to realize he might not be as terrible in the real world as he is at the office。

I would have given it two stars until they made me read “I want you to milk me, baby”。

There were parts of this book that I absolutely loved… but mostly I thought it was a copy of The Hating Game (which I loved) but so much of a copy that I didn’t find it interesting。 I really enjoyed the Spanish heritage and family dynamics that it represented。 And that was probably the only thing I enjoyed about it。

I think ultimately I liked this, but I disliked it several times along the way。 Very similar to The Hating Game, but with less wild workplace immaturity and incompetence (pro), but also a much more obvious pining hero and heroine blatantly ignoring it (con)。 TW for disordered eating。 Steam was okay, Tessa Bailey vibes (lots of “baby” this “baby” that) but less detail and heat。 All in all, okay read。 I’d read another from this author, and while I wouldn’t discourage friends from reading this, it I think ultimately I liked this, but I disliked it several times along the way。 Very similar to The Hating Game, but with less wild workplace immaturity and incompetence (pro), but also a much more obvious pining hero and heroine blatantly ignoring it (con)。 TW for disordered eating。 Steam was okay, Tessa Bailey vibes (lots of “baby” this “baby” that) but less detail and heat。 All in all, okay read。 I’d read another from this author, and while I wouldn’t discourage friends from reading this, it won’t make my recommendation lists either。 。。。more

Yes I read this book because of the hype and the adorable cover。 Was it worth the hype? I am indifferent。 This book was enjoyable。 I really loved the parts before Spain。 The wedding and Spain just seemed rushed。 I kinda wish we got more time in Spain。 The ending was interesting once again it just seemed different than the before Spain writing。 Aaron and Lina were very cute。 There were moments that had my heart melting (hopeless romantic here) and then there were some cringe moments。 But I had fu Yes I read this book because of the hype and the adorable cover。 Was it worth the hype? 3。75 ish。 I feel really conflicted about this one, because I enjoyed it for the most part, but it wasn’t excellent? I was expecting a solid 5/5 because of all the hype。 It was a fun read but it was far too long, boring at times, and a little chaotic。 Also a little concerned about the milking comment

i loved lina and the writing of her was beautiful but god did i hate aaron。 he was so boring!

*3。5 starsreading this book was an enjoyable experience but i never found myself really wanting to pick it up after being away from it。 it was pretty boring in the beginning and didn’t pick up until like 150 pages in。 it was a super cute read though and there were multiple redeeming qualities, lowkey freaky, and i would recommend to anyone that enjoyed the hating game。 i love aaron blackford a lot but i can’t help but feeling like something was missing that prevented me from fully enjoying it。 i *3。5 starsreading this book was an enjoyable experience but i never found myself really wanting to pick it up after being away from it。 it was pretty boring in the beginning and didn’t pick up until like 150 pages in。 it was a super cute read though and there were multiple redeeming qualities, lowkey freaky, and i would recommend to anyone that enjoyed the hating game。 i love aaron blackford a lot but i can’t help but feeling like something was missing that prevented me from fully enjoying it。 it definitely wasn’t my favorite book but i could see it becoming a cheesy rom com in the future。 i just feel like i didn’t gain anything from reading it and it didn’t leave me with any real feelings so i don’t think this is a book i would reread or recommend to anyone that doesn’t really like cheesy romance novels。 。。。more

Sooooooo…。I really do not know what to say about this book except that AARON MF BLACKFORD STOLE MY FUCKIN HEART!!!Aaron Blackford is the most perfect male character I‘ve ever had in any book/story and I wish for my dearest friend to have someone like him!! It was really refreshing to read this book and the tension between the two protagonists was impeccable!BUT (yeah there is a huge but) the reason why I had to take away a star is the loss of the tension at the end and also the corny behavior。 S Sooooooo…。I really do not know what to say about this book except that AARON MF BLACKFORD STOLE MY FUCKIN HEART!!!Aaron Blackford is the most perfect male character I‘ve ever had in any book/story and I wish for my dearest friend to have someone like him!! “I’ll give you the world,” he said against my mouth。 “The moon。 The fucking stars。 Anything you ask, it’s yours。 I’m yours。” Ok, so let me start this off by saying that I wanted to love this, I really did, because well, it seems like everyone does。 I'm a sucker for romance, especially a good old enemies to lovers slow burn, and add fake dating into the mix? Mwah, it seemed like a pretty safe bet。But in the end I just didn't love it。 This is not to say that I completely disliked it, but it w “I’ll give you the world,” he said against my mouth。 “The moon。 The fucking stars。 Anything you ask, it’s yours。 I’m yours。” Ok, so let me start this off by saying that I wanted to love this, I really did, because well, it seems like everyone does。 I'm a sucker for romance, especially a good old enemies to lovers slow burn, and add fake dating into the mix? Mwah, it seemed like a pretty safe bet。But in the end I just didn't love it。 This is not to say that I completely disliked it, but it was just meh。 It was too cheesy for me - I'm ok with cheese, but in small doses only please! Though I found Aaron to be a good love interest overall, especially at the beginning (the Spanish??? Immaculate!), by the end it seemed like everything coming out of his mouth was cheese over cheese on top of cheese, and that's not my cup of tea。 I felt like the book took just way too long to get to the wedding/Spain trip bit, and then once it did, it didn't last for nearly enough。 The first 60% of the story dragged, and then the final 15% were so rushed it seemed like a whole book in itself。 The side characters were completely underdeveloped, some plot lines were thrown in to seem very important only to be mostly ignored or brushed off while other showed up out of the blue and were supposed to hold big significance to us even though it was literally never mentioned or developed。 I'm giving it two stars because I did enjoy the particular tropes that were used, Aaron was so cute (when he didn't go overboard and become a cheeseball) and I also appreciated the slut-shaming/feminist commentary throughout, it was refreshing especially in a romance like this one。 I just didn't feel enough or root for them enough, and when I'm reading romance that's just a must。 Oh well! 。。。more

This 2 stars is dropping to a 1。5。 Was it because I wrote a whole review and it got deleted before I could finish and nothing to do with the book? Yes。 Do I care? Absolutely not。 Anyway, here’s the gist。 Honestly, there were so many points during this book that I wanted to dnf。 I’m in quarantine right now so I really thought that anything, and I mean ANYTHING would make me less bored, and yet this achieved the one goal I didn’t want it to, it somehow made me even more bored!! There was absolutely not reason for this to be 500 PAGES。 500 pages is reserved for books where there’s actual development, both romantic and personal, yet somehow, even with all the mcs thoughts, and I mean ALL because that basically takes up the first 400 pages, just her constantly doubting his feelings for her, not a single ounce of development actually occurs。 That’s one reason why I’m not adverse to slower burns like those by Mariana Zapata, as I’ve actually really enjoyed most of them。 But the one aspect that sets her writing apart from other slow burns is that there is actual character development!! You can visibly see a change in how every character thinks and each character has actual substance!! It was also so disappointing how there was so much lead up the the actual wedding and then we don’t even get to see it。 I then went on to make comparisons to other books like The Hating Game, and how, even though I didn’t enjoy it all that much, it still ran laps around this the way that Michael Phelps would still run laps around me even if he was just swimming his warm up while I was sprinting at full speed on land。 A lot of people spoke really highly about Aaron and how he’s basically perfect but I found myself really not caring for Aaron, Lina, or their story, and honestly I don’t really understand why he couldn’t have just told her how he felt about her since the start because it only fueled her doubts。 I’ve also concluded that I just can’t deal with the whole “he’s been in love with her for the past like 100 years but she just always thought he hated her and so she now hates him”, even though I really enjoyed it in The Love Hypothesis, maybe because the hate part wasn’t stressed as much and it was more about the fake-dating and also there was a huge emphasis on actual growth!! There were a couple positives though。 1。 I really enjoyed her family and their interactions because it just felt really natural, which was a breath of fresh air with this book since everything else felt so forced and 2。 I appreciated the WOC representation in corporate America and also her holding a decent position of power。 I will say though that there was a lot of stress out on her being not white even though she’s literally European and Spain is one of the worlds biggest colonizers, but I still appreciated the representation since it’s so hard to find。Lastly, the smut was so so highly uncomfortable and just awkward!! He also really needs to stop calling her baby because it gets annoying… stick to bolito and wrap it up!! 。。。more

This book was a bit of a let down。🥺 I wanted to see the hype of this book, but I had soon felt like I was myself forcing to get through this book。 It had its good moments, and at times I was even smiling like crazy, but I still wanted so much from this read。 I wouldn't hype it up nor recommend it to a friend。 Wasn't a fan of the long descriptions of Aaron。 I get it he's tall, muscular, and handsome。 I don't need a whole page telling me he is hot😂 I get it! Lord have mercy Aaron Blackford is now my #1 book boyfriend。 I love him so much 🥺❤️ loved this story and the enemies to lovers way more than I thought I would。

Its cute。 Def a quick read。 But also what was the plot? Its a little overhyped, but if you’re looking for a quick romance to read this is the one。 Would I read this again? No。

I really didn’t believe I would enjoy it as much as I did。 I freaking loved it。 Aaron Blackford? I love you。 Seriously — that man… ah。 Also, who doesn’t like a well-written enemies to lovers with a sprinkle of fake dating? Well-written is the key word here。 I was pleasantly surprised to see that all loose ends were eventually tied and even the smallest of details weren’t left unattended。 And I see a Rosie spin-off is already in the making so I really couldn’t be happier。 <3

The way they didn’t even had ‘contact’ and he was already with the dirty talk? The fact that it was so fucking clear from the begging that he was so un love with her and he actually said it and she was like… he’s just faking it。 HOLA? nope, just no。i wanted to love this book but alas, i did not。 The only thing that i kinda liked was the spanish culture。 As a spanish person if feels quite good watching your culture represented in a book (and yet i feel like she was pushing el jamón too much, like chill)。The romance felt infantile as for the fact that she forgave him too fast and with a shit reason that he offered。 Not sure if the next part is truly a spoiler, cause it's so obvious, but just in case。。。(view spoiler)[The reason nope, just no。i wanted to love this book but alas, i did not。 The only thing that i kinda liked was the spanish culture。 As a spanish person if feels quite good watching your culture represented in a book (and yet i feel like she was pushing el jamón too much, like chill)。The romance felt infantile as for the fact that she forgave him too fast and with a shit reason that he offered。 Not sure if the next part is truly a spoiler, cause it's so obvious, but just in case。。。(view spoiler)[The reason why he complained about her on his second day was because he was so entranced by her that she distracted HIM?! i'm sorry, what? he literally told their BOSS that he couldn't work with her because she wasn't a good teamworker or whatever when the real reason was that he couldn't keep it in his fucking pants?!
